A man with a knife who allegedly tried to enter the Israeli Embassy on Wednesday in Ankara was shot in the leg by the Turkish security officers in front of the embassy building.

The attacker, who was heard shouting as “I will change the Middle East” reportedly attempted to attack the embassy’s security personnel before he was shot.

The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Osman Nuri Çalışkan from the Central Anatolian province of Konya. Çalışkan is also reported to be a construction worker and allegedly suffers from mental problems.

The embassy personnel have been taken to the shelter of the embassy and are safe, an Israeli officials said. Israel’s charge d’affaires in Ankara Amira Oron said the attacker did not attempt to enter the embassy building.
