Hundreds of Syrian refugees seek health service in a 50-squaremeter-wide building in İzmir, one of the transition points of refugees in Turkey's Aegean.

A family practice center in the central Altındağ neighborhood was transformed into the Bornova Community Health Center Syrians Polyclinic. However, although the number of patients increase especially on vaccine days reaching up to 100 patients every day, the physical conditions of the single-story house is insufficient.

In the polyclinic where two doctors and two nurses serve, Syrian women have to breast-feed their babies in a small storeroom, refugees and health officers suffer due to lack of heating, and patients have to wait seated on sidewalks outside the hospital.

Meanwhile, this situation caused disturbance among the residents in the district, as people have to travel to other medical centers. Some of the Syrian refugees say they have to walk to other districts for health care because they do not have enough money for transportation.

Syrians are offered free health care and medication by showing their foreigner identification documents. According to local reports, particularly Syrian children face health problems such as upper respiratory infections, scabies and chicken box.

In İzmir, Syrian refugees are offered health care in special polyclinics located in Buca Göksu, Karabağlar, Konak Agora and Bornova Altındağ districts.
