At least one person was killed and 30 were wounded in a multi-car collision on the main highway to Istanbul on Dec. 31 amid heavy snowfall.

The accident took place at 8.30 a.m. near the industrial Dilovası district of İzmit province in northwestern Turkey when a minibus crashed into an automobile, leading to a 13-vehicle pile-up.

One person died at the scene of the crash while 30 were wounded.

Scores of ambulances were dispatched to the area and those injured were taken to hospitals in the nearby Gebze district.
